Indonesian Coffee Taste Test

Saturday, September 10th, 2005

I brought some Indonesian coffees from Surabaya to AIT. I was never this crazy before about coffee. Ever since I stayed in Thailand, I saw people like coffee very much. I know that Indonesia has some of the best coffees in the world, but I haven’t seen many coffee shops like here in Thailand. Even here they have nice sophisticated coffee and espresso machines, which I rarely see in Indonesia except if you go to places like malls, where Starbucks are. We have some coffee cafes like Excelso, Nescafe, Dome, etc. which mostly are expensive. Well, coffees don’t have to be expensive, right? Coffees aren’t for high class in Thailand. I’m dreaming of bringing home one of those coffee or espresso machine. My favorite home land coffees are: Kalosi Toraja (the best, IMHO), Java and Mandheling (Sumatra). There is another interesting coffee called ‘Luwak’ which is rarely found. It is interesting because the beans are taken from animals’ waste, the animals called Luwak as well. These animals cannot digest the beans but those beans were fermented by their stomach acid. Dare to try? When you get a chance to go to Indonesia, find Luwak Coffee!
