First Impression on OLPC
One Laptop Per Child, a laptop for kids in developing countries. My roommate in APNG camp is an OLPC’s sound driver developer. I got a chance to take a hand of an OLPC. This gadget has a webcam, waterproof keyboard, wireless 802.11s (b/g mesh!), USB slots, but no Ethernet and VGA outputs. The screen can be twisted and it has buttons and arrows for gaming. Many bugs found in OLPC like the charging unit, possibly the BIOS for recognizing the battery condition (full/empty). OLPC also comes with a yoyo type driven charger with only some pulls of a hand to charge the laptop. Interesting gadget. Subject to market at US$100 to US$170.
